Dallas Green's Diversity

Dallas Green is a member of the hard rock, screaming band - "Alexisonfire." But recently he has shown his musical diversity in pursuing a solo project, "City and Colour." His solo project is a polar opposite to his hard rock roots; soft slow ballads are a literal change of pace and attitude that prove Green's versatility.

Soul Meets Body

I've only recently discovered the undeniable talent of "Death Cab for Cutie." They have a light, optimistic melody complimented by the acoustic guitars in this version of "Soul Meets Body." Enjoy :)

The Warmth of Incubus

I decided there is not enough music on this site and to change that immediately. Incubus has been my favourite band for many years now, this performance is about 3 years old from the album, Make Yourself in their "Morning View Sessions" concert. The song, "the Warmth" never tires in quality for me and will hopefully be appreciated by all.

The Comic Genius of Conan O'Brien

Conan O'Brien hosted the Emmy Awards this Year. This was a culmination of two things I love dearly: television (and rewarding those within it) and Conan O'Brien. This is the opening segment to the show which is indicative of Conan's brilliance. Enjoy it as I do everytime I watch it!

Conan O'Brien's 'In the Year 2000'

A long standing segment on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, where he and a guest look "into the future." Conan and Will Arnett team up for this segment. I think the joke about velcro is my favourite.

Blades of Glory is Glorious

Go see Blades of Glory immediately. Now! Get going! I had the extreme pleasure of seeing the new Will Ferrell/ John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) comedy about two figure skaters who become the first two same sex partners in the pair’s competition.

Ferrell’s character, Chazz Michael Michaels is a self proclaimed lone wolf whose success rides on his crazy tactics and party lifestyle. Heder’s character, Jimmy MacElroy is born and bred, squeaky clean, naïve and wholesome. The two men are polar opposites and fierce competitors. When they tie for the gold medal and refuse to share it. Their physical altercation in front of the world gets them banned from men’s figure skating for life.

When a loop hole is found in the skating regulations, the two opposites attempt to become partners against the brother and sister skating combo, Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg played by real-life husband and wife, Will Arnett and Amy Poehler. The Fairchild’s set out to cheat their way to the gold and break up the newly established bond between Ferrell and Heder.

It’s interesting that I am able to discuss the plot of this movie without much absurdity, which I assure you the movie s ripe with, but that’s what makes this movie great. It is another ridiculously hilarious comic classic that Will Ferrell and now John Heder are becoming known for. Dirty jokes, comments that don’t make sense, scenes and outfits so absurd that you lose yourself in the humour and just enjoy it. That’s what makes these movies great. Any school, work, money, or life stress - they help you find a way to laugh anyway.

A Match Against American Idol? The Reason Sanjaya is still on TV

While I’ve always been anti-reality television shows, I find I always end up getting sucked into watching at least a few episodes of American Idol. (If for no other reason than its aired on a million channels and post pones the air time of programs which I actually enjoy watching).

I recently took interest in contestant Chris Sligh because he wasn’t a conventional choice of idol. A chubby guy with a fro and an interest in making David Hasselhoff cry, I watched his performances to see how long he would last. Alas, last week he was removed from the program. Normally I would accept and forget this event if not for one thing: Sanjaya Malakar.

Sanjaya has been a contestant who stood out to me because, while some American Idol contestants are lacking some natural singing ability, he possesses none. I’m talking the worst I’ve ever seen, can’t keep key or tune, has no range, literally no musical ability whatsoever. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to find he was tone deaf. As contestants get voted off each week, and Sanjaya remains my anger grows. My mother and I have an open yelling session at the television when he doesn’t get voted off each week.

Now, with Chris’s removal and the talent less nitwit remaining, I expressed my anger to my best friend. She explained that the reason for Sanjaya’s successful stint on Idol is due to a greater scheme. Apparently radio host Howard Stern has been advocating his listeners to vote for Sanjaya as a means to bring down Idol, and he isn’t the only one. In search for proof of Howard Stern’s Idol plan, I discovered “Vote for the Worst” a website that is dedicated solely to keeping the most ridiculous contestants on idol for as long as possible. They boast their role in keeping former contestants like Kevin Covas and last year’s winner, Taylor Hicks on air. So far American Idol has not been able to stop the site.

Creators of the website claim that since American Idol spends so much time and takes so much enjoyment from the misfortune of their more ridiculous auditionees, that they are merely taking the enjoyment to the next level. Although I find their reasoning most humourous, I find myself on the fence of this whole scheme. I do think some of the people who have graced the idol stage have talent. Kelly Clarkson’s vocals were undeniable to anyone, fan of the show or not. However, I dislike Sanjaya and I can’t support him spending one more second on television no matter what the reason. His mere presence angers me. But his spot on the show proves “Vote for the Worst” is working, it’s a tough one to call.
